Peter Kimber - Expert Consultant Forester


Peter has specialised his career in tropical tree plantations, in particular the establishment and management of irrigated plantations of Indian Sandalwood in the ORIA. He has been involved in the research and development of plantation techniques for the successful culture of Indian Sandalwood since the 1980’s. He is widely recognised as one of the foremost experts on Indian Sandalwood in the world.

 


Malcom Baker – General Manager Forestry Operations

Joining Tropical Forestry Services in early 2007, Malcom brings with him considerable general management and administration experience within the agricultural and horticultural industries. As well as a lifetime spent in agricultural industries, he has both formal under graduate and post graduate qualifications in agricultural science. From a rural background he has worked in management in primary production, manufacturing of agricultural products and also in rural input merchandising.

Having worked in plantation management in tropical areas, and also gaining experience at a general management level Malcom, is well placed to manage and coordinate the ongoing functions of the Kununurra operations. Considerable experience in human resource management, financial planning and budgeting, and also work place systems and procedures assist in helping Malcom manage and improve the fundamental business activities of the operations, as well as coordinate the ongoing technical management of the plantations. 

 


Chris Done - Senior Forester

Chris brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience directly related to the establishment and maintenance of Indian sandalwood plantations.  In 1980/1 he planted the first seedlings in small plots and over the next few years was involved in all subsequent plantings of the species on the Ord Irrigation Area. As the then Divisional Forest Officer with the WA Forests Department and subsequently as the Regional Manager for the Department of Conservation and Land Management for the Kimberley he was directly involved in successively bigger trials to prove up the potential of the species.   

Other responsibilities included the management of over 2 million hectares of the Kimberley conservation estate which allowed him to gain a broad knowledge of the region’s wildlife, culture and geology.  Fire management was a significant part of this responsibility. 

Chris also brings a background of plantation and native forest management in tropical regions (Papua New Guinea) in addition to a few years with the Forests Department in more temperate areas of the South West of WA.

 


Glenn Taylor – Head of Plantations
 

Glenn completed his Bachelor of Forest Science, with Honours, at the University of Melbourne in 1993 and has worked professionally in New Zealand, Canada and Australia.  Glenn has senior operations management experience and has been responsible for leading large plantation establishment, protection and silvicultural programs.  In 2004, Glenn was admitted as a Registered Professional Forester with the Institute of Foresters of Australia.  He brings to this role skills and experience in environment, quality and safety management.  Glenn’s experience also includes leadership in incident management and expertise in fire protection.

 
Brett Blunden - Ground Preperation Manager


One of the original team members, Brett has been with TFS since 2001, having commenced work in the Kununurra region in 1996. He brings invaluable regional agricultural experience and has developed strong relationships with local suppliers and workers. Whilst specializing in land preparation, Brett also has an in depth knowledge of the whole process from propagation through to planting and maintenance of mature blocks.

 

 



Jeanice McCosker - Assistant Plantation Manager, Research Station Road Plantation

Jeanice is a skilled agronomist and has completed a Bachelor of Agriculture at the University of New England.  She joined the TFS team in 2007 and brings with her knowledge and experience as a team leader, project manager and project coordinator obtained from a range of industries. Jeanice has developed skills working in different broad acre and irrigated enterprises, along with operating knowledge for a range of machinery. 

 

Garry Smith - Nursery Manager

Garry has been with TFS working in the nursery since 2003.  Garry is also experienced in the planting and establishment of Indian Sandalwood and has excellent capacity for the management and organization of large scale commercial nurseries.

 
Kirk Hutchinson – Establishment Manager

Kirk has a Diploma in Forestry Management and after graduating he worked for the New Zealand Forestry Research Institute in the Sustainability and Risk division.  He then moved to the South West of WA where he worked as Operations Manager for a privately owned forestry company that managed the establishment, maintenance and harvesting of both softwood and hardwood plantations.  Kirk has been with TFS since March 2006 and brings with him excellent plantation establishment skills and experiences. 


Derek Bohn - Assets & Infrastructure Manager  

Derek joined the TFS team in 2007, after 7 years as a spare parts manager for Vanderfield  His strong leadership skills and knowledge/experience in his field will better the efficiency and productivity of TFS’ resources.

 
Matthew Barnes- Head of Development Services

Matt completed an Agricultural Science degree in 1996 at the University of Adelaide. He worked for Elders Ltd from 1997-2005 in SA and NT as an agronomist, providing advice to growers on broad acre cropping, irrigated small seed production and horticulture.

Matt joined TFS in Kununurra in March 2005 and has been responsible for providing an agronomic focus to the plantation, focusing on new ideas and research developments as well as managing the plantation maintenance for the established plantations. 

In the new role of Group Agronomist, Matt will be responsible for regular inspections of all of the plantations, liasing with all the managers in each of the departments to provide agronomic advice and manage the research division of the company.  Matt will also be managing the development of our drip irrigation areas.
