THE KIMBERLEY REGION

The Kimberley: the last frontier….

This is the heart land of the Miriuwung Gajerrong people who are the traditional owners of this land and have maintained their existence to their culture and land for thousands of years.

Kununurra, the conference location, is an untamed and adventurous gateway to some of Western Australia’s remarkable natural attractions.

The spectacular beauty of the Kimberley spans from wide red earth plains, winding idyllic rivers to crystal waters laced with fish and coral reefs.  Located in the northern tip of Western Australia, the Kimberley covers around 421,000km2 – an area more that 3 times larger than England. Despite this colossal land mass only 25,000 people live in the Kimberley, mainly located in the 3 major regional towns of Kununurra, Broome and Derby.

Renowned for this isolation, and for the unique landscape and wildlife abundant there, the Kimberley offers an unforgettable travel destination.

Huge rock formations known as the Bungle Bungles, Indigenous rock art and ancient gorges featuring waterfalls and prehistoric coral are just some of the wonders of this phenomenal place.  This history is intertwined with the Kimberley today, where the sustainable luxury industries of pearls, diamonds and wooden gold (Sandalwood) are emerging as major regional industries.

This combination of ancient and emerging, serenity and exhilaration represent the unique Kimberley oasis – a destination that is not to be missed.
